Vineyard Community Church Scripture Memorization for 2010
For the past two years we have called our fellowship to a deepened prayer life, both as individuals and corporately. As we continue to emphasize prayer as one of our priorities, we want to focus in 2010, on developing a deepened hunger for God's word in our lives. As followers of Christ, we need to be in the Scriptures so we know what following means and how to walk it out in our lives day by day. As we disciipline ourselves to read, meditate and memorize God's word (hiding it in our hearts) the Holy Spirit will transform that devotion into a powerful, God filled experience of living for Jesus daily.
We introduced, during our first service of January 2010, a challenge to memorize one Scripture a week through the year. Each Sunday the verse, or verses, can be found on the front of our bulletin. They will also be available here on our web site under our "resources" heading.
As you set out to memorize these verses:
1. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you a hunger for God's word and to bring it alive into your life.
2. Learn the reference, then the verse, then repeat the reference. (You may want to write them out on 3x5 cards, reference on the front and verse on the back)
3. Learn the passage in parts, piece them together through the week. Recite the verse(s) to yourself several times a day and watch as the Spirit encourages your faith and works a deep peace and joy within.
4. Memorization is facilitated by things like: speaking the verse(s) outloud, writing them down word for word, repeating them throughout the day as the Holy Spirit guides you.
5. As you learn more verses through the year be sure to review previous verses to keep them internalized. You'll be surprized by how much you will learn and how it brings a new dimension of not only knowledge of the Scriptures but application of the Scriptures.
Each week's verse(s) will be listed below. (IF YOU ARE JUST STARTING, PICK IT UP WHERE WE ARE. WE'LL BE REPEATING THIS SERIES OF VERSES IN 2011. YOU CAN CATCH UP THEN.)
