why we exist as a church
We are a church in progress. We share common values and priorities with all Vineyard churches around the world. However, we believe God has a specific purpose for us as a local congregation. Our "purpose" is the fundamental reason we exist as a local church. Our purpose is at the core of all we want to be and do together.
Our Purpose is to be a church where we can worship, know and follow Jesus.
Our purpose comes out of two passages of Scripture:
Matthew 22:37-40
37 Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
To worship Jesus is to love Him completely with all we are and all we have.
To know Jesus is to love others with his love, which is full of mercy and compassion.
Matthew 28:18-20
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
To follow Jesus is to say his words and do his works. |
